Crypto in stores?

Cryptocurrencies are not commonly used in real-world stores, but there are some which accept Bitcoin, including pubs and coffee shops. One such is Hanza Cafe in Torún, Poland, another is The Pembury Tavern in London, and the list is in fact quite extensive.

Somewhat surprisingly it is very, very easy for a store to accept cryptocoins. The simplest method is to obtain a tablet computer and a specialised app, a cryptocoin wallet. The following discusses some of the ways a store can offer student discounts or otherwise support students in their studies by accepting Smileycoins (SMLY) for their products.

The coffee shop

A coffee shop with a $100 Android tablet can accept SMLY by installing the standard SMLY wallet on the tablet. Currently this is done through a link but the Smileycoin wallet will also become available as a standard app on Google play. The wallet should then simply be kept open during the day.

When a customer with an Android phone buys a cup of coffee, the attendant clicks on "Receive coins", enters the SMLY amount and clicks on the Qr code on the tablet. The customer opens her wallet, clicks on the camera button, scans the code and clicks on Send. The entire process takes less time than paying with cash.

Discounts

Stores and coffee shops may not be ready to accept cryptocurrency for all payments, which is perfectly reasonable. However, most stores have occasional discounts and promotions and these can easily be limited to discounts which benefit students by exchanging promotional offers for Smileycoins.

Since promotional material is usually not priced, the price in SMLY becomes somewhat arbitrary and can be set to a number which corresponds to a very hard-working student or simply to any holder of SMLY.

Several bike stores offer discounts to biker groups, commonly a fixed percentage. Here one option would be to give a 25% discount in exchange for one million SMLY. This would limit the discounts to either very good students or those who buy coins on an exchange, but both approaches would benefit the SMLY-earning students.
